DAY 1 CHIANG MAI - THATON

In the morning pick up from the hotel, airport or railway station. Drive to the north for a visit to an elephant camp to observe demonstrations of these giants hauling logs and taking a bath. An optional elephant ride and/or a trip down the river on a bamboo raft can be arranged. Then continue to see one of the rare Palong hill tribe villages and a mystic cave temple. Near Fang take a look at a traditional rice mill. Finally visit Wat Thaton, which is dominated by giant Buddha images that overlook the Mae Kok Valley as well as the Burmese mountain wilderness. Overnight at a riverside resort in Thaton.

DAY 2 THATON - GOLDEN TRIANGLE - CHIANG RAI

First travel up to Doi Maesalong, a mountain village of the Kuomingtan (ex renegade Chinese army of 1949) with a big local market. On route pass various hill tribe villages like Lahu, Lisu, Akha and Yao. Stop at one or tow of them. Descent down winding and scenic roads to the monkey temple of Thum Pla. Finally arrive in Mae Sai at the Myanmar (Burma) border. Take stroll over the border market. An optional side trip to the Burmese border town of Tachilek can be arranged. Later continue to the the mighty Mekong River, where the borders of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar (Burma) meet (better known as Golden Triangle). You will enjoy a boat ride to Chiang Saen. On the way stop at the Laotian river island of Don Sao. Then travel on to Chiang Rai for overnight.

DAY 3 CHIANG RAI - CHIANG MAI

Travel back to Chiang Mai and do some stops on route, such as at the beautiful Wat Rong Khun (white temple) and at a local market, where you can find also some hot springs (opportunity to take a bath). Arrive Chiang Mai in the early afternoon. There is time left for some more sightseeing or shopping in the northern capital. End of the tour. Transfer to the hotel, airport or railway station, depends on your further schedule.

There is also a 2 days/1 night Chiang Rai/Golden Triangle Package available.
On the second day a 3-4 hours boat trip on the scenic Kok River between Thaton and Chiang Rai can be included to this package. If you wish to do so, please let us know at the time of booking.
