DAY 1 CHIANG MAI - HUAI KHUM

In the morning pick up from the hotel, airport or railway station. You leave Chiang Mai and heading to the north. On route short stops possible, for example at an orchid farm or a local countryside market. Then a backroad will bring you through the mountains right along the Burmese border. Enjoy some very nice sceneries and idylic mountain villages. Finally you will reach the hill top station of Doi Angkhang. It's also the location of a royal project, who's goal is to support the poor farmers in the lowland, as well as some hill tribe villages. Later you will visit one of the rare Palong hill tribe villages nearby. Go on and descend down to the Fang Valley and reach the banks of the Kok River. On route see a rice mill and Wat Thaton. Finally reach the Huai Khum Village Resort, where you will spend the night.

DAY 2 HUAI KHUM

After breakfast take a side trip to Doi Maesalong. You will spend some time at the mountain top Kuomingtan village. Take a stroll over the colorful market, where women from nearby hilltribe villages sell their vegetables, fruits and souvenirs. On the way back visit an Akha hill tribe village and the Shan riverside village of Ban Mai, which is famous for their weaving. Lunch on route. In the afternoon you will have some time at leisure. You can take a walk along the river or to the Lahu village next to the resort. Relaxing at the riverside pool would be another option. Overnight again at the Huai Khum Resort.

DAY 3 HUAI KHUM - CHIANG RAI - CHIANG MAI

In the morning you will board a longtail boat for an interesting and approx. one hour ride down the river. Take short stops at another Lahu village and at the hot springs (opportunity to take a bath). Then you will reach a small elephant camp. An optional approx. 1,5 hour ride on one of these giants to a small waterfall can be arranged. After lunch drive back to Chiang Mai with some brief stops on route, such as at beautiful Wat Rong Khun (white temple). End of the tour. Transfer to the hotel, airport or railway station, depends on your further schedule.

REMARKS/FLEXIBILITY:

It is possible to finish this tour on the 3rd day also in Chiang Rai incl. transfer to the hotel or airport.
