DAY 1 CHIANG RAI
Arrival in Chiang Rai and transfer to the hotel. Day at leisure. In the evening take your time to explore the little, but colorful night- and food market.
DAY 2 CHIANG RAI - CHIANG KHONG/HOUAY XAI - PAK BENG
Early morning pick up from the hotel and drive for approx. 1,5 hours to Chiang Khong at the Laotian border. Stamp your passport at the Thai immigration and
then cross the Mekong with a shuttle boat to the Lao immigration in Houay Xai. Here a representative of our Laotian partner agency will welcome you and assist with the visa-
and passport formalities. After this is done short transfer to the main pier. Board the boat and enjoy an scenic boat trip down the Mekong River with one or two brief stops
on route. Late afternoon you will arrive in Pak Beng for overnight.
DAY 3 PAK BENG - OUDOMXAI - NONG KIAU
In the morning take a stroll over the local market, where people from the nearby hill tribe villages trade and sell their goods (vegetables, fruits, handicrafts
etc.). Then continue your journey on the road. Today for most of the time you will travel through a fascinating mountain wilderness and passing lots of hill tribe villages,
where you will stop at some of them, for example at an Akha- and Khmu village. Lunch break will be in Oudomxai. Afterwards go on with your trip through the mountains and
finally reach the village of Nong Kiau on the banks of the Ou River by late afternoon. Overnight at a riverside resort.
DAY 4 NONG KIAU - MUANG NGOI - NONG KIAU
Today start a bit more slowly at the nice riverside resort. Then you will board the boat and enjoy an approx. one hour scenic ride upriver on the Ou River along
beautiful landscapes with some bizare limestone rock formations and small villages. Possibility to stop at one of them. Lunch break will be in Muang Ngoi. Here you can also do
short walks around the village and in to the nearby wilderness (optional). Later a cave with historical background will be shown to you. The boat will bring you back to Nong
Kiau in the afternoon. There is some time to relax or take a bath in the river.
DAY 5 NONG KIAU - PAK OU - LUANG PRABANG
After having breakfast on the veranda overlooking the Ou river continue your journey, today on the road again. On route you see many villages of ethnic minorities
and do stop at some of them, too. Later you will reach Pak Ou, the junction where the Ou River flows in to the Mekong River. There you will visit the holy Thum Ting caves,
which enshrine numerous Buddha statues. Lunch on route. In the afternoon arrival at the former royal town of Luang Prabang, which is also an UNESCO world heritage site. Here
you will take a short sightseeing tour in the city with it's many ancient temples. Transfer to the hotel. Overnight in Luang Prabang.
DAY 6 LUANG PRABANG
Time at leisure until your transfer to the airport...or extend your stay in Luang Prabang, depends on your further schedule.

REMARKS/FLEXIBILITY:
Visa for Laos available on arrival at the border against a fee of US$ 30.- (you should bring a passport photo with you).
This tour can also be done v.v.,
start in Luang Prabang and finish in Chiang Rai. As well it is possible to start with the tour in Chiang Mai or direct at the border in Chiang Khong/Houay Xai.
Additional
nights before the tour in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai or Chiang Khong, but also after the tour in Luang Prabang can be booked with us.

There is a reduction of US$ 100.- to 200.- per person (depends on how many Pax you are) in case you are willing to travel by public boat
(instead private boat) from Houay Xai to Pak Beng on the second day. If you wish to do so, please let us know at the time of booking.
