DAY 1 LUANG PRABANG - MUANG NGOI
In the morning pick from the hotel or airport in Luang Prabang and leave in northern direction. First the road follows along the Mekong and later turns in the
valley of the Ou River. Experience how life goes on at some of the backroads. Also you will take one or two brief stops at villages of ethnic minorities. Arrive in Nong Kiau
and board the boat for an approx. one hour journey up the Ou River followed by lunch break in Muang Ngoi. Afterwards go on for another approx. 30 minutes upriver to visit Ban
Sopchem, a well known weaving village. Later you got some time to relax or swimm at a river camp. Then you will get your kayak and paddle down the river back to Muang Ngoi
(it is also possible to return on the boat). A great opportunity to observe the life along the river with fishermen and playing kids. Overnight at the guest house in Muang Ngoi.
DAY 2 MUANG NGOI - NONG KIAU
After breakfast take a stroll through the village. Then you will start your day trek (total walking time is approx. 4 hours and mainly flat as the routing will be
along rice fields and around picturesque limestone mountains). On route visit two villages of ethnic minorities. First a Khmu village where you get an insight of daily life and
culture of this hill tribe people out here in the wilderness. Most of them are farmers and fishermen. Later you will stop at a Hmong village as well. Picnic lunch will be served
on route. Finally arrive again at the banks of the Ou River and take a short boat trip downriver to Nong Kiau. Here take a side trip to the nearby Pha Tork cave, which used to
be the regional head quarter of the Pathed Lao during the Vietnam war in the 60s. Overnight at a riverside resort in Nong Kiau.
DAY 3 NONG KIAU - LUANG PRABANG
After breakfast on the riverside terrace you will driving back towards Luang Prabang and approx. 2 hours later you will reach the junction of the Ou- and Mekong
River. Take a boat to cross the Mekong and see the holy Thum Ting caves with it's numerous Buddha statues. After your lunch break go on to Luang Prabang, where you will arrive
by early afternoon. If you wish to do so and time does allow, then take a short tour through the former royal town (an UNESCO world heritage site). Finally transfer to your
booked hotel or to the airport in Luang Prabang. End of the tour.
