DAY 1 HANOI - LAO CAI Pick from the airport or hotel in Hanoi and then transfer to the railway station, where you board the overnight train to Lao Cai.
DAY 2 LAO CAI - SAPA Early morning arrive Lao Cai, located at the Chinese border. Drive for approx. 1,5 hours up the mountains to Sapa. Take an orientation walk around the town which is said to have sometimes four seasons in a day. Have also a look in to the local market. In the afternoon take a side trip to Tram Ton Pass, where you can enjoy the great scenery of the surrounding mountain wildernes. On the way back stop at Thac Bac, also called Silver waterfall. Overnight in Sapa.
DAY 3 SAPA In the morning you will explore some villages of the different ethnic groups around Sapa. You travel along some beautiful sceneries with waterfalls and fields on terraces. You will visit hill tribe villages of the Hmong and Giay. Take a walk around the villages and through the scenic rice field terraces. Afterwards drive back to Sapa. Some time to relax or just take a stroll in the town, where women from the surrounding villages sellling vegetables, fruits and handicrafts. Overning again in Sapa.
DAY 4 SAPA - ECOLODGE In the morning free at leisure or take another hike to Cat Cat and Sin Chai village. In the afternoon drive up to the Ecolodge above the Muong Hoa Vallley, which is home to the Tay and Red Tao minority groups. Enjoy the views to the ever green valleys and take some short walks. Stay overnight at the Ecolodge in one of the white stone bungalow, built based on ecological principles.
DAY 5 ECOLODGE - LAO CAI - HANOI After breakfast opportunity for another hike, this time to a nearby Tay hill tribe village. In the afternoon drive down the valley via Sapa to Lao Cai. On route visit a village of the Red Dao. In the evening board the night train and drive back to Hanoi.
DAY 6 HANOI Early morning arrival in Hanoi. Transfer to the airport or your booked hotel, depend on your further schedule.

REMARKS/FLEXIBILITY:
Instead to travel both ways to/from Lao Cai by overnight train it is possible to take a tour back to Hanoi with overnight in Nghia Lo. In that case you will be back in Hanoi on Day 6 late afternoon.
You must get your visa for Vietnam in advance! Please contact your nearest Vietnam embassy for it. Visa for Vietnam can also be issued here in Thailand, but it takes a couple of days to get it. So it works only if you have a stopover in Bangkok or Chiang Mai before your trip to Vietnam.
